Celebrating Human Ingenuity
12 November 2009Southbank Westminster MYP students spent a whole day on November 11 celebrating Human Ingenuity, undertaking a wide variety of creative, physical and intellectual pursuits.
Deputy Principal (Academic) and MYP Co-ordinator, Lori Fritz, explained: "This used to be a Southbank tradition when we were a much smaller school, but we decided to re-introduce it this year to give the students a chance to experience and contemplate these topics outside of their eight subjects. The students were grouped into sets of Grades 6 and 7 and 8 to 10 so that there was a chance to work with new people and to build a sense of community across the age groups."
The workshops organised by teachers and outside presenters included:
A lecture by Anthony Slinn on Guernica
Yoga
Creating community atwork for the canteen wall
Splat! circus workshop
Creating a tower with recycled items
Creative writing workshop
Origami
Creating and presenting a "Play in a day"
British politics workshop
Visiting a local architects' office
David Bodanis discussing the impact of technology on our lives
Creating a cartoon
Photojournalism
Knitting
Poetry workshop
Building a hot air balloon
Learning chess strategies
Creating a movie

The day was a huge success!
