Grade 2 In Hampstead
24 September 2009As part of a unit about "how we organise ourselves to help others", Grade 2 went to visit one of Southbank's nominated charities. The Doorstep Charity provides housing for about 50 homeless families in their hostel in Hampstead. The students visited part of the hostel and asked many thoughtful questions. They learnt about ways that they can help Doorstep and how the school can develop their links with the charity over the coming year. Teacher Vicki Hird explained: "The children were very keen to meet some of the families and see where they live, and also to play with the children there so we are looking forward to a return visit soon." Grade 2 have also been learning about "writing to socialise" (focusing on letter writing) so they visited a post box on the way back to school to post some cards to friends and family.
