Kindergarten History

18 December 2009

Southbank's Kindergarten students have had many unique experiences this term, having visited HQS Wellington, Tate Modern and the Science Museum to experience the wonders of "Mad Science".

Kindergarten's next Unit of Inquiry, Personal Histories, starts in January. The children will have the opportunity to look more deeply into their lives during the past five or six years, talk about how they have changed and explore the places they have lived and visited and the people they know.

Change is the conceptual focus driving this unit and we will ask the children to bring in five or six photographs of themselves from when they were born until now. We shall talk about chronology and create a timeline from these photographs.

We will also discuss what is meant by "memories" and each child will create a Memory Box. On completion, the children will choose four of their memories to place inside and present to their peers. In the past, we've seen memories such as photographs, souvenirs, special gifts from family or friends, newspaper cuttings and art pieces.
