Little Shop of Horrors

09 February 2010

The cast of the upcoming Southbank 30th Anniversary Musical production of Little Shop of Horrors have been working hard in rehearsals for the past couple of months to bring this tale of blood thirsty plants, scheming shopkeepers and unrequited love, to life.

The story is set in the ghetto of New York City, known as Skid Row, in the late 1950s. The plot, narrated by the six fabulous divas of Skid Row, follows the main character, Seymour, an unlucky shop worker who gets rich quick when he finds a strange and unusual plant; and is thrown into a whirlwind of confusion and indecision as he realizes the plant only feeds on blood. Shimon Joseph plays nerdy but loveable Seymour Krelborn, opposite Katherine Laudano as the tacky yet sweet Audrey. Itamar Chinn plays Mr Mushnik, the old, miserable shopkeeper of the Skid Row Florists where our heroes work, while Nick Gizbert plays the sleazy, masochistic dentist who doubles as Audrey's abusive boyfriend, Orin Scrivello-D.D.S. Finally, there is Matt Robin, who has the exciting role of being the voice of the man-eating plant.

The performance takes place at The Cockpit Theatre at the end of March.
