Media Moguls Visit Hampstead
01 April 2009Grade 4 students at Hampstead have been working on a Unit of Inquiry called Mass Media and were very fortunate to have several media experts visit to facilitate their inquiry.
Roald Dahl's daughter, Ophelia, came to recount stories from her childhood and talk about what it was like to have Roald Dahl as a father. As a very special treat, she also read out the beginning of an (unfinished) story that Roald Dahl was working on just before he died. Grade 4 asked many interesting questions and Ophelia was very welcoming with her answers.
Next in was Gary Kurtz, the producer of Star Wars, who spoke about his experience in the movie industry. He showed the class clips from the original Star Wars movie and gave the students the opportunity to ask him questions about how it was made. He also explained the many changes that have occurred in the technology of movie making.
Journalist, Enrico Franceschini, also visited the class and answered questions about his work for an Italian newspaper. He explained the changes that he has seen in this medium throughout his career.
