My Daughter In Tanzania

02 April 2009

What do you say about sending your daughter off to another continent with 34 other kids to teach orphans and blind children and street children?

Southbank parents do this every year.

Looking at the 771 photos she took ("I ran out of battery when we played football with the Masaai") we got some idea of what a trip it was. Caroline could name every kid in the pictures. "That is Gilbert and he is 6 but he looks like he's three". "Martina carried that kid every where". We saw Caroline digging and planting trees, teaching maths class, laughing with the street children with sticker dots all over their faces and funny hats (even on the street dog). She said Mr. Clarke pushed her crying onto the bus to leave. "The kids were crying, we were crying, the boys were even crying."

What did Caroline say about the Tanzania trip? "Best trip ever!"

And what do I say after I thank Ms. Clancy for organizing this every year? I say, "This is what Southbank is all about!"

By Susan Morris, mother of Caroline, Grade 11.
