Not A Waste!
08 May 2009As part of Southbank Hampstead Grade 2's "What A Waste" Unit of Inquiry, the students took part in two interesting workshops.
They first visited the Islington Recycling Centre to learn about recycling and composting. Teacher Candice Wilson explained: "We learnt about worm farms and got to examine the worms really closely to learn how they are very helpful creatures in our environment."
Later in the week, the students learnt about how steel is recycled and realised how many of the objects around us are made of steel. They learnt how to make a magnet using a battery, some wire and a steel nail and found out that recycling uses 75% less energy than making new steel, so we should recycle as much of it as we can!
