Working Together For Positive Change
18 September 2009Cricklewood Homeless Concern (CHC) offers "rough sleepers" a chance to change their circumstances, and offers the Southbank Hampstead community an opportunity to contribute to others.
CHC was established more than 10 years ago and is a local charity that supports individuals to confront and tackle the issues that have led them to homelessness. Once accepted onto a programme, clients are supported back into the community and helped to find accommodation and employment through a structured schedule.
Southbank Hampstead has had a rich history of interacting with CHC. This term, students in Grade 2 have been actively engaged with the charity in connection with their unit of inquiry to learn about how people work together to create positive change.
The children were very interested to visit CHC and learn about the outreach offered to help the homeless. As part of their final action, some students decided to collect food and clothing to support the charity and will also be sharing their experiences with other classes in preparation for a Christmas food drive.
