Artefact Adventures
02 March 2009As part of their Artefacts Unit of Inquiry, Grade 5 students took a walking tour of Old Hampstead Village.
The Guide from London Walks explained many architectural and other clues to help the students become history detectives. They visited the house whose occupant inspired the character of Admiral Boom in Mary Poppins. The real Admiral had his roof adapted to resemble the deck of a ship and he fired a real cannon from the roof every year to commemorate Queen Victoria's birthday!
The students also catalogued the artefacts they collected on the River Thames foreshore and have created their own museum of London, placing the artefacts along a 2000-year timeline. Other classes have been to visit the museum and parents were also invited to see it.
