Celebrating Cultural Diversity

03 April 2009

With 66 nationalities represented at Southbank, we can safely say that we are a truly multi-cultural school. We don't just acknowledge this but celebrate it in order to promote cultural awareness and understanding.

In the final Town Meeting before the Spring break, our bilingual students from all Grades entertained our school community with a dual language literary event. Students recited Poems by Baudelaire (France), Pushkin (Russia), Espronceda (Spain), Yu (China). There were also some short sketches from the famous Ibsen's Peer Gwynt play (Norway) and the Elf King (Germany). To add a light touch some Grade 7 students danced sevillanas, salsa and merengue.

Gabriella Hudson, Head of Modern Languages, said: "It was remarkable to see and appreciate so much talent amongst our students."
