Discovering Maps
12 January 2009Hampstead Grade 2 students have been learning about how explorers made geographical and scientific discoveries.
Teacher Vicki Hird explained: "As part of their Exploration Unit of Inquiry, a parent came to visit us and showed the class a range of old maps. We were able to see how the knowledge of different explorers helped to gradually fill in the map of the world that we know today."
The students were particularly interested in seeing old maps of Hampstead and discovering that the site of Southbank used to be just fields.
