EAL in London International Schools

23 October 2009

This month, EAL (English as an Additional Language) teachers from several international schools around London came together at Southbank. “The meeting was a great success,” said Southbank Hampstead’s EAL Teacher, Anita Bamberger. “The importance of maintaining a child’s mother tongue was discussed and research to support this was used. We were guided by expert opinion in this field that ‘to reject a child’s language and culture is to reject a child’.” Different teaching materials and resources were shared and Oxford and Cambridge publishers had sent samples of their most recent books for display. The teachers enthusiastically shared ideas, helpful tips and experiences.
