Flamenco at Kensington

29 April 2008

"La Feria de abril" is a Spanish celebration that happens every year in Sevilla, Espana during the month of April where the people get together, eat, sing and dance "Sevillanas", a Flamenco style dance.

To celebrate a little bit of Spain in our school and to learn more about Flamenco, the Kensington campus recently took part in a Flamenco dance workshop.

Sandra "La Espuelita", an experienced teacher of Flamenco Dance for children, enchanted and engaged both students and teachers with her dance. Following her with some steps, stamps, claps, twists and much more we all found ourselves shouting an emphatic "Ole" with hands up and with a smile on our faces.

As experienced inquirers, our students had lots of questions for Sandra at the end. We were delighted to take part in an event that made one of the Spanish traditions more real - helping us to understand and appreciate Flamenco and feel closer to the Spanish culture.
