Investigating Science

09 December 2009

Grade 2 Southbank Kensington students have come to the end of their second Unit of Inquiry - Fantastic Forces.

The students really enjoyed being scientists. They have had many opportunities to predict, question, experiment, observe, record results and reach conclusions. They have had experience of how to plan and perform a "fair test". They are able to identify many forces, such as gravity, friction, air-resistance and magnetism, and can explain how these forces can be used to perform tasks more efficiently. They also used their knowledge of forces to design and create objects such as cars, planes and parachutes to work efficiently.

Teacher Marie Christine Hunter said: "The children were such enthusiastic inquirers during this unit! They asked so many questions relevant to this and the next unit that we asked a High School Science Teacher Ms Fritz, Southbank Westminster' Deputy Principal (Academic), to visit."

Having developed their scientific thinking and their scientific skills, the students are now well equipped to apply their understanding to their next unit: Explore and Discover.
