Serving the School, Benefiting Charity

14 January 2009

Grade 3 at Kensington recently completed their Unit of Inquiry called Goods and Services.

One project in this unit involved the students brainstorming products or services they could offer to the wider School community. Their aim was to provide a service or produce goods in order to raise money for Southbank Kensington's world charity in Sri Lanka.

All of the students were exposed to technical skills involved in sewing, woodworking, card making and baking. Students then made a decision on the group they would work with based on a decided area of interest. Within the teams the students identified necessary roles including manager, marketers, sales, production and cleaners. They successfully created products and held sales in the garden over the last two days of the term. Many of the items were so popular that they sold out very quickly!
