Southbank Hampstead Introduces Eportfolios
20 June 2008The World Wide Web and technology has transformed the opportunities for learning.
At Southbank, we ensure that our students are equipped with 21st Century literacy skills and that technology is at the forefront of what we do. This now extends to the way primary students collate and present their year’s work.
Southbank Hampstead recently replaced traditional paper-based portfolios with digital technology for two of its classes and the pilot has proved so successful, that they will be rolling out electronic portfolios for all classes from Kindergarten upwards next year.
Deputy Principal, Stuart Bain, explained: “The advantages of e-portfolios are many - fostering active learning, motivating students, being channels for feedback and discussion of student performance. Eportfolios are readily accessible and can store multiple media such as digital photos, video and audio clips. Crucially, they are easy to modify and develop cross-referencing and cross-curricular student work. They provide a natural vehicle for the integration of technology.”
The use of e-portfolios is also kinder on the environment, dramatically reducing the amount of paper used by the students and staff.
