Southbank International School pupils perform with stars at The 02 Arena
17 December 2007Southbank International School pupils were among 7,000 young singers performing at The 02 Arena on Wednesday (12th December) night.
The London leg of the Young Voices Concert Tour featured stars Beverley Knight and Lee Ryan (former member of boyband Blue) alongside performances from London youngsters.
70 pupils from Southbank International School's Westminster and Hampstead campuses (aged 9-18) practised since September for the big show, learning the songs, some dance moves and how to sing as a choir. They joined with the other schools for a big rehearsal and soundcheck at the South East London arena prior to the evening performance.
The concert is part of a nationwide tour raising money for children's charities CLIC Sargent and Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Alongside the children's performances of pop and Sixties medlies and a rousing Merry Christmas finale, the show featured a professional dance company Urban Strides, opera singers and a beatbox performer.
Head of Voice at Southbank International School's Westminster campus, Helena Dix, said: "The students were so fabulous. They had never done anything like this before. Even after a long day of rehearsals, they were all buzzing and they worked so hard."
The concert will also be held at the Royal Albert Hall on Friday (14th December).
