Southbank World Summit
09 January 2009A Southbank World Summit is a formal debate based on those at the Model United Nations.
Students in Grades 8, 9 and 10 are randomly grouped together in delegations. The delegations represent a country or an interest group and the students must research and then represent the views of this country or group in the debate.
This year, the following topics were debated:
Resolution 1: The question of the role and safety of journalists
Resolution 2: The question of an international code of conduct for journalists
Students prepared a minute-long opening speech setting out their point of view on the two resolutions. A full debate then followed. After lunch, voting took place.
