Terrence Higgins Trust

17 December 2008

Southbank has been taking part in a school-wide PSE movement supporting the Terrence Higgins Trust Fund (the UK's leading HIV charity).

Students sold red ribbons at Portland Place and Conway Street for AIDS Awareness Day, raising over £100. Grade 6 also took part in a poster contest with the resulting creations displayed in the Portland Place library. They were judged by a panel of people who represent the Southbank community (a student, parent, teacher and an administrative staff member). Kate RyKova was declared the winner and she received a gift certificate from the PTA.

Later in the year, the students will also hear from Emma Cole, an inspirational speaker who discusses life with AIDS.

PSE stands for Personal Social & Emotional Education. It is a core part of the Middle Years Programme at Southbank Westminster. PSE focuses on the personal, social and emotional, and physical development of each student. The discussion-based curriculum is flexible so that it can incorporate current events.
