Visiting Westminster Abbey
18 February 2008Grade 4 pupils visited one of London's most beautiful buildings this month.
The class from Southbank Kensington visited Westminster Abbey as part of their current unit of inquiry based around Beliefs.
The children considered questions such as "How do people worship here?", "How are people allowed to be buried here?" and "Can I be buried at Westminster Abbey when I die?".
Teacher Jon Coward commented: "The children took this opportunity to reflect upon Westminster Abbey as a place of worship and also as a museum. It was a truly inspirational trip."
Based on experience of this trip and others, the children then presented their own Beliefs Museum in school on February 5. They considered what makes a good display within a museum. "It has given them fuel to wonder about other religions and beliefs around the world and is great preparation for the PYP Exhibition next year in Grade 5," added Jon.
