World Summit: Use and Abuse of the Internet
30 May 2008Every year, Southbank students formally debate an issue of global importance.
This year's "World Summit" was about the use and abuse of the internet, and addressed such issues as safety, data protection, protection of privacy, education, and the effects the internet has on culture and the economy.
Students in Grades 8 to10 were assigned to a role group which represented people who are affected by the use of the internet in our society, such as parents, government organisations and businesses. They researched issues related to the health and safety of children on the internet and the question of theft and plagiarism using the internet.
The Summit took place at International Student House and was opened by a guest speaker from CEOP - the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre.
