Southbank Kensington Principal Vacancy
Southbank International School, London seeks a Principal for its Kensington campus for the start of the 2010-2011 academic year, effective August 2010. The selected candidate will be an integral member of the school's Education Board. The Southbank Education Board is responsible for the effective management and development of Southbank International School.
Southbank International School is an IB World School, authorised to deliver all three of the International Baccalaureate Programmes. We have three campuses serving the educational needs of the international community in central London and surrounding areas. Southbank Hampstead and Southbank Kensington are both IB Primary Years Programme (3-11 years/Early Childhood to Grade 5) schools and Southbank Westminster offers the IB Middle Years Programme (11-16 years/Grade 6 to 10) and the IB Diploma Programme (16-18 years/Grades 11 and 12). The Southbank Westminster campus occupies two sites at Portland Place and Conway Street.
At Southbank Kensington there are more than 200 students from ages 3-11. At Kensington there are over 25 nationalities - the largest group being from the USA. Our staff is also international, although mostly from countries where English is the first spoken language.
Duties and responsibilities of the position include (but are not limited to) the following:
- working with other members of the Education Board to maintain and develop the ethos and educational programmes of the school
- overseeing that the central register of staff conforms to UK legal requirements and safer recruitment procedures
- maintaining a high profile amongst the student community, demonstrating a good working knowledge of all the students and developing positive, caring student relations
- having a high profile amongst the parent body, meeting regularly with the PTA Executive, attending PTA meetings, reacting swiftly and appropriately to parental concerns and communicating regularly and positively with the parent body by means of newsletters and meetings as appropriate.
Qualifications and qualities:
The applicant will:
- have a university degree and a post-graduate qualification in education
- be knowledgeable about the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme
- have proven success in an international school setting
- have good interpersonal skills and proven ability to build a team and have demonstrated their leadership ability to inspire others
- be prepared to make a commitment of at least three years
- have integrity, be dependable and unflappable under pressure
- have good organisational skills and be IT literate.
