Executive Principal’s Response: Guest Blog

I was delighted to read Richard’s blog which encapsulates the value of extracurricular activities in a student’s education. The evidence suggests that time spent on such activities enhances rather than distracts from academic performance. Even the word ’extracurricular’ may be a misnomer, as it implies such activities are ‘outside’ the main orbit of a child’s education. We would argue that they are an integral as well as necessary part of school life, which is why such activities at Southbank are free of charge. We are proud to claim that we have a very diverse programme which compares very favourably with other similar schools. Without such activities our educational provision would be much the poorer – and, indeed, incomplete.
