Our Grade 11 and Grade 12 students amazingly won the ‘Rookie of the Year’ award at this year’s First Tech challenge competition in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. Our school is one of the only two British schools in the UK to compete at First Tech Challenge level at the US-based competition. The students used their brilliant skills and minds to design, build and programme a working robot, which is no easy task. They had serious competition with teams from Russia, Germany, Spain and Romania also competing to win the award. The ethos of the competition is ‘gracious professionalism’ and students are awarded points by helping each other out, which created a team building atmosphere the students really enjoyed. The students demonstrated their team work skills and received a huge amount of interest and support from other participating teams. This is a great honour and we would like congratulate our students for a job well done. Southbank is now the proud owner of a steel and bronze trophy, and already preparing for FTC 2016!
