Southbank (Westminster) launched the Work Related Learning programme with work experience placements for Grade 9 students this year, and it has been a huge success! Students got the opportunity to participate in the world of work, gain practical experience and take on some interesting and challenging responsibilities, through a one-week placement in June 2016. Most of the students networked and found their own placements which have provided an insight into the competitive world of job seeking and a potential future career. For some students, it has helped to cement a chosen career path, and for others dissuaded them from taking it at all! It has been rewarding to see students become aware of the relevance of what they are learning at school in the context of the world of work. Southbank students have been commended for their engagement and enthusiasm by employers. We look forward to developing our Careers Guidance and Work Related Programme next academic year 2016-17.
