Refugees Welcome Meeting in Kensington and Chelsea

On Wednesday 8 June 2016, some students from Kensington’s Volunteering Club (a weekly After School Club) went to give a presentation at a public meeting organised by Migrants Organise. They are a small charity based in Ladbroke Grove (West London) who offer support, advice and training to migrants and refugees in the local area. Students shared about how they have been supporting Migrants Organise as their chosen charity. These Southbank Kensington students have been busy fundraising for the charity in many ways, taking part in activities such as a Hot Chocolate Sale, Walk to School Day, Art Competition and a Rainbow Loom sale. Students have also presented about the refugee crisis in a whole school assembly, and have created a welcome book for refugees as part of their Kensington parents also organised a very successful Winter Benefit fundraiser in March 2016 which raised about £26,000. £10,000 of this was donated to Migrants Organise to help them restore and furnish a flat for the first Syrian family due to arrive in Kensington and Chelsea in July 2016. Thank you to everyone for your support, and watch this space for more fundraising opportunities next academic year as Kensington continues to support the vital work of Migrants Organise.
