Show-stopping night at the theatre!
How is it possible to improvise a whole musical? That was a question asked by a group of students who went to see Showstoppers! one of the West End’s most innovative shows. Each night, the cast ask for ideas from the audience and build these into a nightly unique musical. The show we saw ended up being set in the mailroom at BI6, with improvised musical numbers in the style of Guys and Dolls, The Sound of Music, The Book of Mormon, Wicked, and Sweeney Todd. The speed and flexibility of delivery was eye-opening to our Southbank team of young musical theatre aficionado, including students who are studying Music and Theatre for their Diploma Programme. As they left the theatre the question “When are we doing another show?” was heard more than once………and this is the kind of thinking that we like our field trips to inspire!
