The International Baccalaureate (IB) program is enjoyed by both international learners and those who have not previously studied the IB, including children moving over from private primary or secondary schools. It’s the end of Discovery Week, and as we wait for our Grades 6-11s to return from their adventures, we’d like to share a little about where they went and what they got up to.
Grade 6 - Edale YHA in #Derbyshire
Grade 7 - Sheringham YHA in #Norfolk
Grade 8 - Dunfield House #Herefordshire
Grade 9 - Barton Camp #Somerset
Grade 10 - Ilam Hall YHA #Ashbourne
Grade 11 - Hartington Hall YHA #Derbyshire
Students enjoyed a range of individual and team bonding experiences in stunning surroundings. Activities included, fire-building using batteries, wire wool, cotton pads, and matches, night and day hikes, canoe sessions, savouring delicious meals such as a classic fish and chips, surfing the waves and crabbing by the shore.
They also constructed bridge paths and climbed walls, enjoyed relaxing yoga sessions and cable car rides. Some students stepped back in time to the Victorian era, where they met people dressed in period costumes and learned about life during that time while others endured a challenging uphill stretch rewarded by a visit to a locally produced ice cream store!
We hope all our students had the best time creating forever memories with their friends. We can’t wait to hear more about their adventures next week!

After a tricky journey through some narrow country lanes, our Grade 9 students arrived in high spirits at Barton Camp. They were put straight into groups and started getting to know each other through team-building activities.
Later in the evening, students were treated to lovely views after a night hike up the hill.

To round off our orientation day for new families to Southbank on Wednesday, #Humanities teacher Mr Julian Barnett gave one of his infamous London #History Tours!
Parents and students were shown around the area of #London around our #Westminster campus and learnt interesting facts about the history.
On #Fitzroy Square, just in front of our Conway Street site, families were shown where Picasso and his brother squatted before #Picasso became a famous #artist. They were told interesting facts on how the houses in the area used to get their coal delivered (the small rounded drain-looking things in the ground used to open for the coal to be poured down there). And did you know that Park Crescent was meant to be a full circle, almost like a circus, but they unfortunately ran out of budget and had to keep it as a crescent?!
We hope all of our students enjoyed their first few days back to school, and we wish them a restful weekend before their adventure begins on Discovery Week next week!

To mark the occasion, and welcome our new families to Southbank Westminster, our marvellous #Westminster PTA put on a very special and delicious Ice cream social on Fitzroy Sq Garden, in front of our Conway St building. It was a lovely social occasion where students, parents and staff had the opportunity to get to know each other.
Today marks the first day of school, where we welcome back all of our students, old and new. We`re so pleased to be back to school, and wish all our students a fantastic first term!
