2015 Recipient Announcement: The Milton Toubkin IB Diploma Programme Scholarship
Southbank International School was established in 1979 with Milton E Toubkin as its founding Headmaster. In 1997 Southbank International became the first school in the UK to offer all three IB programmes. The school continually aims to develop students who are internationally minded, independent and enthusiastic about life and learning. To honour Milton’s legacy and vision, each year the school proudly offers a scholarship to an exceptional, highly motivated and deserving student who wishes to pursue the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
This year the scholarship was reviewed and re-launched as a merit-based scholarship, resulting in an exceptionally high calibre of applicants. We received an unprecedented response, with a 135% increase on last year. The majority of candidates were A+ students. The top four shortlisted candidates were interviewed by our Admissions Committee, resulting in the selection of Hanna Suliman-Nicol. The shortlisted candidates displayed such strong ability that they were each offered a place on the competitive Southbank’s IBDP programme.
An exemplary student, Hanna is a trilingual who has attended schools in Dubai, Uganda and Sudan. A consistent honour roll student, Hanna has received the Junior School Academic Excellence Award, the Academic Commitment Award and the IB Learner Profile Award. Also an avid sportsperson, partaking in swim, basketball, football, track and cross country, Hanna’s achievements have been reflected in her receiving the Junior School Sportswoman of the Year Award. Not stopping there, Hanna is also a talented percussionist, creative writer and photographer as well as a regular community volunteer.
Embodying the principles of the IB, the selection committee strongly believes Hanna is the model candidate to further build upon the school’s outstanding IBDP results (the last three year averages were 2012, 35 points; 2013, 36 points; 2014, 36 points with a 100% pass rate), embracing internationalism, and maximising all there is to offer within our diverse range of extra-curricular activities.
We look forward to welcoming Hanna to Southbank, as she becomes a valued member of our student body.
