Welcome to Southbank International School
We are London's leading International Baccalaureate (IB) School, offering a different approach to academic excellence for children aged 2*-18
At our Central London campuses in Hampstead, Kensington and Westminster, we nurture talent, celebrate individuality and develop curious, inquisitive and constantly challenging minds. Our students consistently achieve outstanding results and first-choice university offers.
The International Baccalaureate (IB) program is enjoyed by both international learners and those who have not previously studied the IB, including children moving over from private primary or secondary schools. The IB aims to do more than other curricula. It builds students critical thinking skills, nurtures their curiosity and their ability to solve complex problems.
Through a commitment to academic excellence and a uniquely liberal ethos, the IB also develops students with an inner belief in themselves. Southbank students have an openness to the outside world and a desire to give back to communities on a local, national and global level.

IB Diploma results 2024
100% Pass Rate For The IB Diploma
We are delighted to share the outstanding achievements of our students in the IBDP results.
Out of the 86 diploma students who participated, one of our biggest cohorts to date, 100% successfully passed and 86% scored higher than the world average (30.32), our Southbank average is 36. This is a remarkable feat and something we are extremely proud of.
*A score of 34-37 in the IB is roughly equivalent to AAA at A-Level. These comparisons are approximations and can vary by subject and university.
Congratualtions to our Class of 2024 for achieving such fantastic IB Diploma results which reflect their phenomenal academic performance.
A different approach to academic excellence.
"A school for students who think differently, challenge confidently, dream bigger, question more, explore further."

Our #Westminster Southbank Law Society achieved mock trial victory against @asinlondon last week in a testament to the skill and dedication of our team!
The case involved defending Grade 11 student Alex Page in the role of a university student accused of witness intimidation—a complex matter that unfolded as a “crime within a crime,” with unreliable witness statements further complicating proceedings.
Leading the defense, Grade 11 student Mariana Isaza Marino delivered a powerful closing argument, underscoring the prosecution’s failure to meet the rigorous legal standards of proof. The team as a whole demonstrated focused preparation and maintained their professionalism throughout the trial. We were commended by the advisor and opposing counsel from ASL. Congratulations to all involved!

Racing four or five other people around a 100m ice track while experiencing 2.5 G force in a semi-squat position supporting the equivalent of 300lbs, balancing on 16.5” long blades 1 mm thick at a 45° angle going 36 km/hour. This is what Katherine, a Canadian Grade 8 student here at Southbank #Westminster, does for sport.
Short track speed skating is and has been a passion of Katherine’s for a long time. She started doing it for fun when she was 8 and decided to become quite serious about it just before she turned 12. Katherine’s years of training paid off when she recently competed in the British National Short Track Speed Skating Championships and won the Junior Women’s C category!
Katherine’s age group covers three distances, 500m, 777m and 1000m and the track is set to 111.12m. Her next big competition will be in Luxembourg at the end of this month.
A massive congratulations to Katherine on her recent success and we look forward to hearing about how she gets on in her next big comp!

Last week, our #Hampstead Grade 5s embarked on two exciting field trips to deepen their understanding of the British political system and the rule of law in the UK, as part of their How We Organise Ourselves Unit of Inquiry. Students have been inquiring into government systems and their impact on human rights and equal opportunities.
During their visit to the Houses of Commons and Lords, they learned how the British system of government operates. During their guided tour, they explored how bills are passed between the houses in a process known as “parliamentary ping-pong” before becoming law. The students also had the chance to meet an MP, who shared insights into their role and answered pupils’ thoughtful questions.
At the Royal Courts of Justice, pupils stepped into courtroom roles during a mock trial on a cyberbullying case. They experienced the legal system firsthand, taking on roles such as barristers, solicitors, witnesses, jurors, and even the judge. After presenting evidence and debating the case, the jury reached a verdict, showcasing the importance of justice and fair decision-making.
These hands-on experiences have provided a fascinating and memorable way for Grade 5 to understand the workings of government and the legal system while reflecting on their broader impact on society. In the coming weeks, they will take this inquiry further by exploring different political systems and researching connections with government and human rights.

A huge welcome back to our Southbank community on the first day of term after the winter break, let`s make this Spring term a great one!
Just before the break, our #Westminster Grade 7 students visited @javawhiskersuk, a cat cafe in #Marylebone, as part of their Poetry Unit for a unique blend of creativity and calm.
Surrounded by feline companions, students found inspiration for their poetry, exploring themes of connection, tranquility, and observation. The cozy atmosphere sparked thoughtful reflections and added a playful twist to their literary journey!

We`re delighted to announce that Southbank has been ranked in the top 20 UK schools in the 2024 Global IB School League Table. As the highest ranking International co-ed school, we`re particularly proud of the fact that we`ve almost doubled our cohort in the last 5 years and maintained our excellent average DP scores, well above the world average. All of our students take the full Diploma, and this year we achieved a 100% pass rate.

Last week, students at our #Westminster campus put on an amazing show. The #Macbeth promenade production was a first for Southbank; a play that took place in different spaces around our Portland Place building, with the audience following the cast from space to space to watch the story unfold. Set in our contemporary world, with Macbeth recast as a politician vying for power, and the witches becoming journalists bent on destroying him, the audience witnessed what was initially a celebratory house party gradually descend into the downfall of Prime Minister Duncan King, Macbeth`s best friend Banquo, and finally Macbeth himself.
Starring two casts who performed in parallel, made up of students from grades 7-12, this was a logistically challenging show involving a lot of improvisation, technological wizardry and physical exertion! Our students have never performed in a show like this before, with it offering them the opportunity to try a new style of theatre in which the cast had to interact and engage with the audience, as well as think on their feet and improvise to ensure that the performance and the audience kept moving in the right direction.
Despite some of the students having little prior acting experience, they all did a remarkable job of coping with these challenging performance conditions. An awed audience member reported that our students managed opening night technical difficulties with a professionalism that beat anything he had seen in the West End!
The Creative Arts truly bring people together, and are a vital part of our Southbank community, allowing students to make lasting friendships across classes and grades. We are so proud of our incredibly talented and dedicated students for pulling off this complex production with such aplomb, and have to give particular thanks to our wonderful G12 backstage managers, Nathalie and Mari, who worked so hard behind the scenes to manage the logistics of the show 👏
